Less than 2% native forest remains in Mauritius. Without action, invasive alien plants will replace what remains and the unique animals and plants that once found the island a paradise will go extinct. Support our efforts to weed and replace non-native species with native plants.
For every Rs 500 = 1 native tree planted and weeded for a year.

Restored forests are the best solution to removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reversing global warming.
• Forests balance the Earth’s water-cycle essential for cooling our climate.
• Forests stabilize the climate by sucking carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the atmosphere and fixing it into soils and biomass.
• 50% of a tree’s biomass is carbon which remains stored, acting as a ‘carbon sink’, unless the tree decays or is burned. This is why long-lived hardwoods such as ebony are excellent at reducing our carbon footprint.
• Plantation forests are poorer at storing carbon than natural restored forests as they are harvested and cleared releasing carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere every 10-20 years, whereas ebony forests continue to sequester carbon for centuries.
